2. Overview
GistMan is a macOS menu bar app for creating, editing, viewing, and copying GitHub Gists.
This privacy policy explains what data is processed, for what purpose, and on what legal basis.
3. Data Processed by GistMan
3.1 Data you provide
- GitHub Personal Access Token (entered by you)
- Gist content you create or edit
3.2 Data loaded from GitHub
- GitHub username and optional display name/avatar URL
- Gist metadata (ID, description, filenames, visibility, links)
- Gist file content (when loading details)
3.3 Local technical data
- App settings (for example launch-at-login and notification preferences)
- Encrypted local gist cache for faster loading and offline-friendly behavior
- Temporary clipboard data when you explicitly trigger copy/create actions
4. Purpose and Legal Basis
Data is processed only to provide app functionality.

5. Third-Party Service
GitHub API
Purpose: Retrieve and manage your gists.
Data processed:
- Access token (in request authorization header)
- Gist and profile data required for requested operations

GistMan does not use advertising SDKs and does not sell personal data.
GistMan stores data locally on your device and does not operate any separate backend servers; data is only transmitted to GitHub when required for gist operations.
6. Storage and Security
- Your GitHub token is stored locally in the macOS Keychain.
- Cached gist data is stored locally and encrypted at rest.
- Data is not transferred to additional servers operated by the developer.
7. Notifications
GistMan can show local macOS notifications (for example after copying gist content).
You can disable notifications in app settings or in macOS system settings.
8. Retention and Deletion
- Cached gist data remains on your device until it is cleared or overwritten.
- You can clear local cache and notifications in app settings.
- You can remove your token at any time by replacing or deleting it in the app.
9. Your Rights (GDPR)
You have the rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, and objection under applicable law.
